Max Wall (age: 18 years; 2005 – July 2, 2023) was one of the two Irish school students who died during a trip to the Greek Island – Ios.

Wall and his friend, Andrew O’Donnell, were marking the end of their Leaving Certificate exams with around 90 of their classmates on the island of Ios – when tragedy struck over the weekend.

It started with the disappearance of O’Donnell, who was later found dead near a cliff on July 2, 2023. It is believed that Wall, who had a successful heart surgery in 2020, could not handle losing his friend and experienced heart complications that took his life.

The day Andrew O’Donnell went missing marked the beginning of an unimaginable ordeal. Deeply concerned for his close friend, Max took immediate action to find him.

He visited a print shop on the island of Ios and had posters made, appealing to the locals and tourists for help in locating Andrew. The posters, featuring Andrew’s photo and a plea for assistance, were distributed around the area, hoping that someone would spot him.

The authorities commenced the search for Andrew O’Donnell the following morning, aided by the signal from his cell phone. The investigation led them to a heartbreaking discovery – Andrew’s lifeless body was found at the base of a cliff. The news of Andrew’s tragic fate devastated Max Wall, who was already grappling with the uncertainty of his friend’s whereabouts.

Upon learning of Andrew’s demise, Wall made the difficult decision to return home to Dublin to seek comfort from his family and those who knew Andrew well. He headed for the port, carrying his belongings, but fate had more sorrow in store for him.

While waiting for the ferry, Max tragically collapsed and succumbed to complications related to a heart condition he had previously undergone surgery for in 2020.
