Mississippi Officer Michael Green

Mississippi Officer Michael Green

Michael Green (age 26 born in 1997) used to work as a police officer in Mississippi. However, he recently found himself in trouble with the law. He admitted guilt to a federal misdemeanor charge after being accused of a disturbing incident. Authorities said that he made a man he had arrested lick urine off the floor of a jail cell.

This action led to his termination from the Pearl Police Department shortly after the incident was captured on security cameras in late December.

During his court appearance before Federal Magistrate Judge Andrew Harris, Green, who is known for his tattoos of a large cross on one arm and the word “Blessed” on the other, calmly admitted guilt to the charge of depriving someone of their civil rights.

Pearl Mayor Jake Windham publicly condemned Green’s actions, describing them as brutal and unacceptable treatment of a person in detention. While the court documents did not specify the race of the individual involved, Green is white, and a spokesperson for Pearl indicated that the man he arrested is Latino.

Green was arrested in December 2023

According to the document, once B.E. was in a holding cell, he tried to inform Michael Green that he needed to urinate. He ignored him, prompting B.E. to urinate in a corner of the cell.

This action led Michael to threaten B.E., telling him to lick his own urine off the floor. He then forced B.E. to record videos of himself doing so, even though B.E. was visibly uncomfortable and gagging.

The federal charging document emphasized that Green had no valid reason related to law enforcement to subject B.E. to such treatment. The incident came to light over Christmas weekend, prompting an investigation by the city of Pearl. Mayor Windham expressed disappointment, stating that proper procedures should have been followed instead of violating B.E.’s civil rights.

Michaelresigned from his position on December 27, and although the victim did not attend Green’s hearing, federal authorities reached out to him. Currently free on bond, Michael is awaiting sentencing on May 24, facing a potential one-year prison sentence and a $10,000 fine.

Michael surrender his Mississippi law enforcement certification

Following the incident, Federal Magistrate Judge Judge Andrew Harris instructed Michael Green to surrender his law enforcement certification in Mississippi.

Green had been working at the Pearl Police Department for approximately six months after previously serving in other law enforcement roles in the Jackson area, as mentioned by Mayor Windham.

Cases involving law enforcement officers charged with brutality are rare in Mississippi. However, investigations into police shootings occur several times each year. Notably, in Rankin County, where Pearl is located, six former white law enforcement officers, known as the “Goon Squad,” pleaded guilty to federal charges related to a racist assault on two Black men.

Mayor Windham commended the Pearl Police Department for swiftly conducting its investigation into Green’s actions. He highlighted the department’s proactive approach compared to the Goon Squad incident.
