Olivia Knighton (age: 11, November 3, 2011 – July 19, 2023) was a fifth-grade student at Attleboro’s Coelho Middle School. She was better known as the beloved daughter of Brad Knighton, a former professional American goalkeeper.
Olivia was passionate about soccer and admired her father’s career as a retired goalie. Olivia’s love for the sport was evident to those around her, and she cherished her time playing and supporting her favorite team, the Revolution.
Tragically, Olivia’s life was cut short in a devastating boating accident on July 19, 2023, near Little River on the Intracoastal Waterway in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
The young girl was on a 23-foot boat with 11 other passengers when the accident occurred. As per the investigation conducted by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, it appears that the boat was shaken by a strong wake from another passing boat, causing Knighton and eight other individuals to fall overboard.
During the incident, Olivia was struck by the boat’s propeller, resulting in severe injuries. She was immediately taken to McLeod Seacoast Hospital, but she tragically passed away despite medical efforts. Fortunately, no other passengers on the boat were injured in the accident.
Olivia’s unexpected and untimely death left her family, friends, and community in shock and deep mourning. The Knighton family expressed disbelief and heartbreak over losing their bright, pure-hearted daughter.
