Buffalo mass shooter Payton Gendron Biography

Payton Gendron (born on June 20, 200, age 19 years old) is an American white supremacist terrorist who is responsible for killing 10 innocent black people at a supermarket in Buffalo, NY, last year and was sentenced to life imprisonment on February 15, 2023.

Gendron pleaded guilty on November 15, 2022, to several charges, including murder and attempted murder. According to CBS, Payton became the first person in New York’s history who faced charges of domestic terrorism induced by hate.

Court allowed Payton to release a statement; he apologized for his actions and the emotional damage he caused to the families of the victims. He accepted that all of his actions were the outcome of the hatred that he developed for members of the Black community after reading white conspiracy theories.

The Erie County Court Judge, Susan Eagan, announcing the sentencing, said, “There is no place for you or your ignorant, hateful, and evil ideologies in a civilized society. There can be no mercy for you, no understanding, and no second chances. The damage you have caused is too great, and the people you have hurt are too valuable to this community. You will never ever see the light of day as a free man again. It is the judgment of this court for your conviction.”

Buffalo Supermarket Massacre Explained

It happened on May 14, 2022, at around 2:30 at the Tops Friendly Markets in Buffalo, New York. The then 18-year-old Payton entered the supermarket with ill intentions to hurt as many people of color as he could. Reports suggest that he was heavily armed with weapons, namely Savage Arms Axis XP hunting rifle, Bushmaster XM-15, Mossberg 500, and AR-15 rifle. He was also wearing body armor and a military helmet.

Gendron’s first target became a young employee named Zaire Goodman, who was helping an older woman in the parking lot. Luckily Zaire survived the bullet wounds, but the woman he was helping lost her life at the scene.

Buffalo Police Department’s retired Officer, Aaron Salter, who was working at the Tops as a security guard, tried stopping the attacker and fired multiple shots, but because of the armor plating, Gendron survived, and Salter lost his life.

Police arrived at the scene quickly, but a blood bath had already happened. Reports revealed that a total of 13 people faced bullets, of which 4 were store employees; sadly, 10 of the victims lost their lives. Buffalo Police revealed that the attacker tried streaming live footage on Twitch, but the platform removed the video 2 minutes after it started and assured no one would repost it.
