Sonya McKnight (age 57, born in 1966), is a former magisterial district judge in Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, she is accused of shooting her ex-boyfriend, Michael McCoy, in the face while he was asleep in bed.

The incident resulted in McCoy losing vision in one eye. According to reports, McKnight allegedly shot McCoy in the head while he was asleep. As a result, she faces charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault.

Court documents reveal that McCoy had recently ended their year-long live-in relationship, and despite his efforts to ask McKnight to leave and removing her access to the house key, she continued to enter the residence using a spare key.

On the day of the incident, McCoy returned home from work to find McKnight inside the house, refusing to leave. He later fell asleep, only to wake up with severe head pain. It was later confirmed that he had been shot in the head.

McKnight called 911 herself, reporting McCoy’s vision problems. Online court records show that she is now facing charges of criminal attempt – first-degree murder and aggravated assault in connection with the shooting on February 10th.

Its not first time Sonya McKnight shot someone. Back in May 10, 2019 she shot her ex husband Enoch McKnight. However, this first shooting incident was deemed an act of self-defense.

Following the May 10 altercation, McKnight took a voluntary paid leave from her duties. This incident left Enoch McKnight wounded in the groin but fortunately, he recovered and resumed work by June. McKnight and her estranged husband, Enoch, had a tumultuous relationship. They married in 2014 but had been living separately for about a year prior to the incident. Their divorce proceedings, initiated by Sonya in 2016, were not finalized.

The events leading to the May 10 shooting unfolded when Enoch visited Sonya’s residence at her request to assist with moving furniture. Accounts of the incident provided by Enoch and witnesses differed, with Enoch alleging he was shot after being accused of infidelity while moving furniture.

Despite Sonya filing for a protection order against Enoch in October, which was later adjusted to allow peaceful contact, the relationship remained contentious. Several incidents, including altercations and alleged violations of protection orders, occurred between October and March.

Notably, Enoch McKnight had a prior criminal record, including convictions for larceny and armed robbery in North Carolina and York County.

Sonya Accused of Interfering With Police Investigation Involving Her Son in 2021

Sonya McKnight faced accusations related to her involvement in a police investigation concerning her son. The Judicial Conduct Board filed a petition on February 8, 2021, regarding a traffic stop involving McKnight’s son, who had requested entry into a diversion program. McKnight has held a judgeship since 2016.

On February 22, 2002, at 2 a.m., a Harrisburg police officer initiated a pursuit of a vehicle driven by McKnight’s son, Kevin Baltimore, within her district. During the investigation, police discovered an active arrest warrant for Baltimore and found illegal substances, including crack cocaine and a large sum of money, in his possession and vehicle.

She arrived at the scene of the traffic stop and contacted Thomas Carter, the Commissioner of the Harrisburg Police Department, on his personal cell phone. She alleged that her son had been subjected to an illegal traffic stop and confronted officers in an assertive and agitated manner, demanding explanations for her son’s arrest. She also entered her son’s vehicle during the encounter.

The rush to conclude the investigation resulted in officers failing to properly search Baltimore, who was later found to have a razor blade in his pocket upon arrival at the county booking center.

Subsequently, Sonya faced charges of tampering with evidence, obstructing the administration of law, and official oppression from the Attorney General. However, she was acquitted of these criminal charges, as reported by Daily Mail.

Following these events, McKnight received a suspension without pay for 200 days as part of the disciplinary action against her.
