Who is Star Stowe?
Star Stowe, aka Ellen Louise Stowe (born on March 19, 1956) was a 40-year-old Playboy model who murdered on March 16, 1997. Police found her body half clothed, and reportedly, she was strangled.
Investigators connecting the dots linked her death with that of Fort Lauderdale-based prostitute Sandra Kay Walters who was murdered that year on February 25.
Later that year, several more such cases of strangling prostitutes came to light which was viewed as the work of a serial killer. Sadly, investigators could not solve the mystery behind those murders, and even to this day, nobody knows who killed Star Stowe.
In February 2023, Stowe again became a topic of talk after ID aired an episode of “The Playboy Murders,” covering the mystery behind her death. Keep reading if you have watched that episode and want to learn more about her.
Where Was Star Stowe Born?

Star Stowe’s Career As A Model
Working for PB, she changed her name from Ellen to Star because of a heart-shaped tattoo below her belly. In the late 70s, she worked with famous photographer Pompeo Posar and the photos were used for the 1977 Playboy issue.
Soon after becoming the first playmate with a visible tattoo Stowe came into a relationship with Gene Simmons, a bassist whom people recognize as a member of the KISS band; she even appeared on the band’s discs.
Star saw an upward trajectory in her modeling career for a few years, but the downfall came very soon, and her fame started to disappear. She tried to return to her job as a stripper, but it did not work out; she became a drug addict and fell into prostitution. She was later seen in the streets of Coral Springs on March 16, 1997, following which only her dead body was discovered.
